Casual Staff Manual
The Faculty's Casual Staff Manual (PDF) has developed a manual for their casual staff to support their work.
Inductions
All casual academics in Business are expected to attend a Faculty Induction before commencing duties at UTS. You will be paid for this. This induction comprises of:
- General Human Resources - information on employment matters relating to casual academic staff. This includes information about pay and conditions and the expectations and responsibilities of you as a member of staff at UTS.
- Health & Safety - outlining safety procedures and encouraging access services that help the balance between work, home and leisure activities and foster well being.
- Teaching & Learning - an overview of how systems operate in the Faculty, followed by workshops to provide support on topics such as designing learning, helping students learn, assessing and providing feedback.
These sessions will be offered at the start of each semester.
These inductions are held twice a year, before the beginning of each semester. If you would like to attend one of these inductions please contact Romy.Lawson@uts.edu.au for further details.
There is also an UTS:Online Orientation available for all UTS staff, which provides useful reference material for casual academics.
The University is committed to creating a positive environment in which all students and staff are treated fairly and equitably. Everyone has the right to study and work in an environment free of harassment and discrimination. EO Online (http://eoonline.uow.edu.au) aims to assist with this goal. It is a self-paced, on-line training program for all university staff about equal opportunity. It covers:
- theoretical knowledge and a practical understanding of how to apply equal opportunity principles in work and study environments
- real life case studies, examples and interactive learning techniques for self assessment.
All staff at UTS are encouraged to complete Module 1. Module 2 has been specially designed for Managers and supervisors.
Career and Professional Development
Further opportunities for professional development are also provided within the Faculty, including monthly teaching and learning forums, hands on workshops and guest presenters. There is also a possibility for sponsored attendance at conferences/seminars. Further resources and materials can be found on the Faculty's teaching and learning website.
Further workshops are also conducted by the UTS:Institute for Interactive Media and Learning and UTS:Human Resources.
Casual academic staff can discuss their professional and career development and performance development needs with their faculty contact and/or subject coordinator.
