RPL Application Rules for Students with Previous University Studies
- Completed subjects from Australian tertiary institutions or a degree from
international institutions endorsed by NOOSR (must be equivalent to an Australian
Bachelor degree in accordance with Australian
Qualifications Framework (AQF)
guidelines
can be used to apply for RPL. - Students may apply for unspecified electives. Subjects submitted for unspecified electives have to be equivalent to a semester-long UTS subject. Total prior subjects (or equivalent credit points) used for unspecified electives must be equal to UTS credit points.
- Exemptions will not be granted for subjects deemed to be taken more than ten years prior to the student's first semester of study in the relevant UTS: Business Faculty course. For example, a student must have undertaken a subject, or graduated, no earlier than 1996 for the 2006 student intake.
- To have a major or sub-major noted on a student’s final transcript, a student must have completed at least 75% of the subjects in that major or sub-major at UTS: Business, under any approved undergraduate course.
- Subjects submitted for exemptions must have been passed at a level equivalent to a pass at UTS, conceded passes (less than 50%) are not accepted.
- Exemptions granted CANNOT be used as a subject substitution.
- Subjects from prior study can only be used once and not for multiple exemptions.
- Maximum of four subjects can be used from prior studies for each UTS subject.
- Students should NOT enrol in subjects for which they are seeking exemptions. Due to the volume of exemption applications received, exemption entitlements cannot be determined for all students prior to the deadline for adding and deleting subjects in the student's first semester of study. It is therefore necessary to ensure you are enrolled in subjects in which you can continue for the entire semester, irrespective of exemption outcomes. Should applicants subsequently be unsuccessful in obtaining an exemption for a subject in which they have NOT enrolled in their first semester of study, this subject will have to be undertaken in a later semester.
- Students should first compare the subject descriptions from previous study
with the subject descriptions in the UTS:Handbook
prior to applying. Exemptions will only be granted for subjects deemed equivalent
to UTS subjects in time, content, treatment and conceptual development. - Students seeking exemptions based on university studies must follow the instructions on the Exemption Checklist (PDF, 40k, 1 page). A copy of this coversheet must also be signed by the student seeking RPL and attached to the RPL documentation.
- Students may re-apply if an application is refused but ONLY if new information is provided.
