Variation of program

Changes to candidature (student study period) details

Research progress reports

Students must submit a progress report every semester unless they are on leave or under examination. See UTS:Progress reports opens a UTSWeb sub-site

Doctoral or Masters assessment

Students are required to undertake a formal assessment by a review panel, who decide whether student's candidature should be continued, re-assessed, or discontinued. The assessment takes the form of both a written and oral presentation of your research proposal. Full-time students are required to undertake the assessment by the end of their second semester and part-time students by the end of their third semester. Course transfer/upgrade/downgrade

Seek advice from your supervisor(s) before you apply for a course upgrade (from a Masters by thesis to a PhD) or downgrade (from a PhD to a Masters by thesis). ?Course upgrade must be accompanied by an assessment. See UTS:Forms opens a UTSWeb sub-site

Leave of absence

Application for leave must be submitted before the Census dates (31 March for Autumn semester/31 August for Spring semester). Leave will not be granted for a total period of more than 2 semesters. See UTS:Rules opens a UTSWeb sub-site and UTS:Forms opens a UTSWeb sub-site

Extension of candidature

If you are unable to submit your thesis for examination by the Expected Work Submission (EWS) date you need to apply for extension. If approved an extension for 1 semester will be granted. See UTS:Rules opens a UTSWeb sub-site and UTS:Forms opens a UTSWeb sub-site

Thesis submission and examination

Upon completion, students are required to submit their thesis for examination. The preparation for this begins 3 months prior to submission of thesis. See UTS: Thesis submission and examination opens a UTSWeb sub-site

Intention to submit

Two to three months before submission of thesis, you should complete and submit a Notification of intention to submit a thesis form.

Your supervisor is required to nominate examiners, and submit the Nominations of thesis examiners form, Faculty of Business nomination of thesis examiners form (PDF, 23k, 1 page), and examiners' agreement to accept the invitation to examine.

Submission of thesis for examination

You are required to submit three copies of your doctoral thesis, or two copies of your masters thesis, bound in temporary binding with the Certificate of authorship included in each copy, the Student statement form, and the Supervisor's certificate.

After examination and amendments of thesis

You are required to submit three copies of your thesis bound in buckram with the Certificate of authorship included in each copy; a letter of amendments certified by your supervisor, and the Lodgement of research degree thesis in library form.

Graduation

When your thesis has been examined and you are eligible to graduate the University's Graduation Unit will contact you regarding your graduation ceremony. See UTS:Graduation opens a UTSWeb sub-site

Course withdrawal
