Credit Recognition (CR) - Subject Exemption


Referred to as subject exemption, credit for previous study or advanced standing, or recognition of prior learning (RPL), the following procedure for Credit Recognition (CR) relates to postgraduate study at the UTS Business School Postgraduate Programs.

CR application lodgement dates

Prospective student CR applications

Please submit your CR application together with your course application.

Current student CR applications

CR applications can be lodged at the Student Centre Haymarket (postgraduate). Students are strongly encouraged to have all exemptions finalised by the end of their first semester.

Number of subject exemptions allowed

To be awarded a UTS qualification, you need to have completed a certain amount of subjects at UTS. The number of exemptions allowed in each course are as follows:

Executive MBA No exemption
MBA Degree max 10 subjects
(4 core subjects can be undergraduate)
All Master of Business or Master of Management
Degrees (excluding MBA but including Master of Professional Accounting & Master of Professional Accounting Extended)
max 8 subjects
(4 core subjects can be undergraduate)
Graduate Diploma max 5 subjects
(2 core subjects can be undergraduate)
Graduate Certificate No exemption (except approved UTS Short Courses)

Subject exemption assessment

Exemptions are granted where your previous study is deemed equivalent to UTS subjects. We recommend you first compare the subject descriptions from your previous study with the subject descriptions in our UTS:Handbook of courses. For further information please contact us.

Apply for subject exemption

  1. Please read our Credit Recognition information flyer and checklist (PDF, 177k, 2 pages).
  1. Apply for CR and send completed CR application (PDF, 436k, 2 pages) to Student Centre Haymarket (postgraduate).

    If the relevant documents are not lodged correctly your application cannot be accepted for processing.
