Honours Marketing Program

The UTS Marketing Honours program prepares students to undertake further academic research or to conduct research in a marketing management position.

Coordinator 
Dr Paul Wang manages the School's Honours Program. It is a requirement of the School of Marketing that students interested in applying for the Honours program contact the Coordinator prior to submitting their application.

Honours Program Committee
A committee of academic staff from the School of Marketing, chaired by Dr Paul Wang, has overall responsibility for the Honours Program. Enquiries should initially be directed to Dr Wang

Honours Qualifier Assessment
In October of each year final year undergraduate students are invited to take the Honours Qualifier Assessment (please consult your lecturer for details).

Summer Camp 
Over several days in January/February of the Honours year, students attend a Summer Camp for new honours and postgraduate research students. This camp introduces you to the tasks involved in completing your Honours, helps you to acquire practical skills as well as exploring theoretical issues related to research in marketing. In addition, the camp has the important role of helping you become an integral part of the research student community within the School.

Thesis 
The honours thesis is the report of an original piece of research, written [in less than 20 000 words] in a scholarly manner. The topic would normally be chosen from a list which has been prepared by the School's Honours Committee. Each topic will have a designated supervisor and co-supervisor[s].  The topic and supervisor[s] for each student's thesis should be chosen before the commencement of the Honours year.

Having chosen a topic, the honours student then develops a concrete proposal for the thesis. This proposal is formally presented to academic staff, fellow honours students and others around the beginning of April, in a seminar-like format.

After the initial presentation, the student uses the feedback to help revise and further develop the topic. A progress report is presented in late June. This presentation is marked and the mark comprises part of the assessment for subject 24903 [Readings for Thesis - Marketing] (website).

On completion of the research work, the student makes a public oral presentation [at the beginning of November]. Feedback from the oral presentation may be incorporated into the final written thesis, which is due in mid-November. The mark for the oral presentation is incorporated in the assessment for subject 24907 [Advanced Research Methodology - Marketing] (website).
