Sydney is one of the world's great cities. Set in the midst of a magnificent harbour (Fig 1), and with famous beaches like Bondi, Manly and Coogee, visitors can expect spectacular views and plenty of leisure options. The SRE conference venue, the UTS Haymarket Building, is near to Chinatown and the entertainment hub of Sydney, Darling Harbour.
A cruise around Sydney Harbour complements a visit to Sydney, allowing visitors to take in icons such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. From the CBD a ferry down the Parramatta River or a suburban train transports commuters to Olympic Park, the site of the 2000 Olympic Games.
There are numerous transportation options in and around the conference precinct, and plenty of sightseeing to be done either before after the event. Travel and tourist information is presented in the Sydney Transport Guide (350 KB PDF, 6p). Of course, Sydney is not only an exciting place to visit, there is also an abundance of fine restaurants at which to enjoy locally produced wine and cuisine. There is a great variety of dining establishments within walking distance of the conference venue, as explained in the Sydney Restaurant Guide (105KB PDF, 16p) , and the Sydney Restaurant Map (196KB PDF, 2p).

Sydney Airport is approximately 15-30 minutes travel time (non-peak hour) to the CBD: there are plenty of travel options by train, bus or taxi. The conference venue, UTS Broadway, is within walking distance of Central Railway Station, Central Bus Terminal, and the monorail route around Darling Harbour. Proximity to Chinatown and the Sydney CBD means ready access to diverse cuisine, ranging from simple take-away meals through to a la cart dining.
