About the Economics Discipline Group
The UTS Business School Haymarket campus is located in downtown Sydney close to Darling Harbour and Chinatown. Part of the UTS mission is to create an internationally significant program of research and graduate education in microeconomics and public policy. In 2011, the School of Finance and Economics separated into the Economics Discipline Group and the Finance Discipline Group. The discipline group is experiencing a period of significant growth with recruitment of academic staff at all levels. The major research strengths of the Economics Discipline Group are in econometric theory and Bayesian modeling, structural dynamic models, microeconomic theory, behavioural and experimental economics and microeconomics applied to health, labour and other areas of public policy. Our academic staff consistently wins research grants from funding agencies including the Australian Research Council, the US National Science Foundation, the National Health and Medical Research Council and the US National Institutes of Health.
The EDG has strong links with professional bodies and with government and industry and we regularly provide expert advice to government and policy forums. Our links with academic institutions around the world provide our students with valuable research and exchange opportunities.
We teach a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional development courses. The largest of our programs is the Bachelor of Business degree, in which we offer an economics major and an extended major as well as sub-majors in economics and econometrics. PhD and Postdoctoral Fellows advised by Economics Discipline Group occupy positions of leadership in major academic and research centres worldwide.
