The Centre for Australian Community Organisations and Management (CACOM) was established in 1990. It is located within the UTS:Business Faculty but operates independently of any teaching program.
The mission of the Centre for Australian Community Organisations and Management (CACOM) is to enhance the Australian community sector and its management through research, training, publications, seminars and conferences.
To achieve its mission, CACOM pursues seven objectives:
- To promote a better understanding of the Australian non profit sector by undertaking research on its size, management practices, sources of funds, history, its relations with other sectors and the associated phenomena of giving and volunteering.
- To assist the development of community sector management skills by providing and developing training programs and educational material.
- To assist the community or the third sector and governmental agencies address policy issues.
- To facilitate debate and disseminate research through public seminars and publications.
- To become a leading centre in the voluntary and nonprofit sector research for Asian countries (see Asian Third Sector Research Unit)
- To form links with centres across Australia and overseas.
- To ensure relevance and visibility as a university based research centre for the community (or the third) sector.
