The Bachelor of Accounting is a three-year full-time course given over six semesters (half-years) of study. Two of these semesters are spent in industry, where students continue to study part-time and complete work-integrated projects while undertaking industrial training. Other subjects are "fast-tracked" at university (studied intensively over 4-6 weeks) during January-February.
The special design of this course and its subjects allows students the opportunity to complete a major in accounting, plus a second major or sub-major in another business discipline, as well as gain a year of full-time work experience, all within three years. Students still enjoy at least 6 weeks of holidays each year.

When it comes to elective subjects, students may choose to study a second major (8 subjects), or a sub-major (4 subjects) plus 4 other elective subjects, from within the Faculty of Business or from other UTS Faculties. The range of majors, sub-majors and electives open to Bachelor of Accounting students is the same as for Bachelor of Business students at UTS. For a full list of these choices refer to the Faculty of Business Online Handbook.
Honours study is also available. Graduates of the Bachelor of Accounting who attain a credit grade average or better may undertake an Honours program with the Faculty of Business with a specialisation in any area in which they majored. The standard duration of the Bachelor of Business (Hons) course is one year (two semesters) full-time.
Please note:
- The Bachelor of Accounting is not the main undergraduate accounting course at UTS.
- The Bachelor of Accounting is only open to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia.
- All applicants must note that the course starts with compulsory fast-track classes 6 weeks before most other university courses. Check out the start date for next year’s course or read more about the fast-track period.
- We welcome applications from recent school leavers all over Australia - the course is not just for Sydney students.
- Note that you can't do both BAcc and a cadetship. If you are interested in pursuing either, read our information regarding cadetships.
