January
Back to work
Summer holidays are soon over for Bachelor of Accounting students, staff and sponsors. Third-year students commence their second Internship in the second week of January and second-year students start 22321 Cost Management Systems (Fast-track) at the end of January. Meanwhile, we welcome our new first year students in mid-January - see course start date.
Third-year students go on Outdoor Leadership and Management Skills Course
This course, held at an outdoor training venue to Sydney's south, takes place on a weekend in late January. Third-year students undergo individual and group training in leadership and learning preferences.

February
Fast-track period for first-year students
Our new students will continue to study hard all through February, completing both 22107 Accounting for Business and 22605 Accounting Information Systems before other university students arrive in March. Fast-track also involves lots of excursions and team-building exercises to break up the hard work.
Welcome Reception for New Students and Sponsors
In late February the students of our first-year class are formally inducted into the program and to the University, as part of our first formal function of the year. We also welcome new sponsor organisations and hear a little about why they decided to join the program.

March
Recruitment of final-year students - First Round
Sponsors of the third-year class make a series of presentations to students, with applications and interviews following in quick succession. Many of our sponsor organisations will look to make graduate job offers to the class by early April, almost a year before their working life actually starts.

April
First-and-second-year students embark on our High School Visit program
Each year we ask first-and-second-year students to help us promote the course to prospective students by revisiting their old school as well as some other target schools in Sydney. These visits typically involve one or two of our current students talking to interested students in Years 10-12 about the Bachelor of Accounting and their experiences since joining UTS.
Third-year students busier than ever
Final-year students are extremely busy, with recruitment presentations and interviews, their Major Project and the normal high demands of a full-time work experience placement with one of our sponsors. Sponsors are actively recruiting for next year, and most of the class will have accepted graduate job ofers by the end of this month.

May
First-year Guest Lecture series
In addition to their other Autumn semester classes, first-year students have a regular weekly spot dedicated to guest lectures from sponsor organisations. Senior managers from various sponsors of the first-year class come down to UTS to talk to our newest students - about their organisation and the work that they do (and the work that students would be doing, either in Internships or as graduate employees).
These are great opportunities for our new students to meet the sponsors that make this course possible and find out more about the business world. By the end of May, after the last guest lecture, the students have a chance to express their preferences for which organisation they would like to do work experience next semester.

June
Exams
June sees the end of classes for first and second-year students and the start of the formal exam period. It's a quiet time around campus, except for Thursday nights at the bar which are as loud as ever!

July
Holidays!
First and second-year students complete their Autumn semester exams in early June, while third-year students finish their second Internship in mid-July. Everyone gets at least 2 weeks break now before next semester: first-year students commence their first Internship in early July, while second and third-year students are back at UTS for Spring semester classes in the first week of August.
Up to half of the third year class will head overseas, to complete their final semester in International Exchange. This is a great opportunity to travel and immerse themselves in another culture, without interrupting their study.

August
Last semester for third-year students
Spring semester is the last semester of classes for our final-year students. All now have graduate employment secured for next year. Most accept a graduate position with a sponsor organsiation and pick up the Recruitment Incentive bonus payment.
Student Awards Night
In mid-August we hold our second formal function of the year - a Student Awards Night. This function is hosted in turn by the two professional accounting bodies - CPA Australia and the ICAA - as part of their generous support of the Bachelor of Accounting program.
The Student Awards Night acknowledges and rewards outstanding contributions and prize-winning academic work by Bachelor of Accounting students. We also feature presentations by third-year students of extracts from their Major Project reports, demonstrating the value that these students can add while undertaking research in the workplace.

September
First-year students are now 2 months into their first Internship, getting a real taste of the world of big business. They generally work 9 to 5 five days a week, come in one evening a week for part-time classes, and get up to half a day off each week to work on a second, project-based, subject called Australian Corporate Environment.

October

The annual Bachelor of Accounting Revue is held at the end of October. This is the fun show put on by the graduating class for the benefit of staff and curent and prospectve students, and something of a farewell as they near the end of their course.

November
The final week of classes for third-year students: some final exams, then a final long summer break before starting their graduate jobs in the new year. Hope they enjoy the holiday, as it's the last good one they'll get for a while!
It's also exam time for second-year students, as well as the allocation of placements for next year's Internship 2. For first-year students November sees the culmination of their major project for Australian Corporate Environment - a presentation of their managment report to senior managers at their sponsor workplace.
