Selection Criteria

Please note:

  1. The Bachelor of Accounting is not the main undergraduate accounting course at UTS.
  2. The Bachelor of Accounting is only open to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia.
  3. All applicants must note that the course starts with compulsory fast-track classes 6 weeks before most other university courses. Check out the start date for next year’s course or read more about the fast-track period.
  4. We welcome applications from recent school leavers all over Australia - the course is not just for Sydney students.
  5. You can't do both BAcc and a cadetship.  If you are interested in pursuing either, read our information regarding cadetships.

The course is "intended for school leavers" in that applicants who are currently in Year 12, or only 1-2 years out of school, are those sought by the employers who sponsor the course.  Applicants more than a few years out of school are unlikely to be selected - based on our selection criteria - but are still eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria
Entry to the Bachelor of Accounting is very competitive and is not based on ATAR score alone. Selection criteria are as follows:

1. A genuine and informed interest in an accounting-based career
2. Personal attributes needed to succeed both as a student and in a business career - communication skills, inter-personal skills, team-working skills, problem-solving skills, enthusiasm and dedication
3. Involvement and achievement in a range of activities and interests
4. Demonstrated leadership qualities or potential
5. Academic ability (desirable ATAR:  95*).

*Note: There is no fixed ATAR requirement. Like all of our selection criteria, the better your score for academic ability the better your chances of being selected.  Each year we take in students with ATARs ranging from 85 to 100.   If you are a little weak on any of the other criteria above, a high ATAR will improve your chances of eventual selection.  Equally, applicants with ATARs of 90 or slightly less can still win selection if they are high achievers across our other selection criteria.

These selection criteria reflect the skills and attributes that graduate employers - our industry partners - are looking for in graduate recruits.
