AFAANZ Peter Brownell Manuscript Award

Professor Zoltan Matolcsy and Associate Professor Anne Wyatt received the AFAANZ Peter Brownell Manuscript Award for the Best Article 2007 for the paper entitled “Capitalized intangibles and financial analysts”, Vol. 46, Iss. 3, pp. 451-479, Accounting & Finance. The award was presented at the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand Annual Meeting held on 1-3 July 2007 at the Gold Coast.

Professor Peter Booth, David Brown and Francesco Giacobbe received the AFAANZ Peter Brownell Manuscript Award for the Best Article 2004 for the paper entitled “Technological and organisational influences on the adoption of activity-based costing in Australia”, Vol. 44, Number 3, pp. 329-356, Accounting & Finance. The award was presented at the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand AFAANZ Annual Meeting held on 3-5 July 2005 in Melbourne.
CPA Australia Frank Burke Scholarship
R. Lanis, G. Richardson
Dr Roman Lanis (UTS) and Dr Grant Richardson (Monash University) were awarded the Frank Burke Scholarship 2005 for the project titled “A longtitudinal study of corporate effective tax rates in Australia pre and post the Ralph Review of business taxation reform initiatives”. CPA Australia offers the scholarship of up to $10,000 for research into the area of taxation and/or superannuation to academic accounting researchers based in Australian universities.

Dr Stephen Topple was presented with the 2004 CPA Australia President’s Award for outstanding contribution to the NSW Division through service on the Applications Committee.

Peter Wells was presented with the 2003 Peter Brownell Award at the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand Conference 2003. The award was for the best paper published in the Association’s journal in 2002. The winning paper was “Earnings Management Surrounding CEO Changes”, Accounting & Finance, 42(2), p169, June 2002.

Professor Peter Booth, David Brown, Francesco Giacobbe were presented with the 2001 AAANZ Best Paper Award for their paper “Organisational Influences, Ownership, and the Adoption of Activity-Based Costing Australian Firms” in the AAANZ 2001 Conference in Auckland, New Zealand. This award is sponsored by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Australian and New Zealand Centre.
Article of Outstanding Merit Award

Professor Peter Booth, Professor Zoltan Matolcsy, and Dr Bernhard Wieder were presented with the 2001 Article of Outstanding Merit Award from the Financial and Management Accounting Committee of the International Federation of Accountants. This award was for the Articles of Merit 2001 Competition in the FMAC Article Award Program for Distinguished Contribution to Management Accounting. The winning article was “The Impacts of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems on Accounting Practice - The Australian Experience”, Australian Accounting Review, Issue 22, 10, 3 November 2000, pp. 4-18.
